Missional Structures and General Synod

The General Synod voted against recommendations 13 and 14 — the ones that proposed an “open space” and the preparation of order changes to create the new “middle assembly.” Instead the synod acted to continue the “denomination-wide dialogue.”

There appeared to be little energy to move ahead with the type of proposals offered by the task force. More important appeared to be the disclosure of the lack of trust throughout the church and the concern that delegates had concerning that.

The proposal to go to biannual synods was defeated.

The proposal to seat deacons at higher assemblies was sent to the Commission on Theology for study of the theological basis to have deacons as members of higher assemblies.

  1. Sounds like there is a light shining in the darkness. Sometimes consolidation causes more problems than it solves.

  2. If you want a lesson in “spin” language, bip on over to the RCA home page and check out their description of this same vote. At least I think it was the same vote.
