  1. At the General Synod, Russell Bottman told of a conversation he had with his father just before the Belhar was confessed. His father told him that it was to risk his future pension. Bottman said then — and reported to our synod — that we cannot go forward ruled by our fear. A telling word to our church living, as we are, in a context ruled by fear.
