Call to Meeting

The Chicago Invitation will meet on October 22, at noon, at Mariandale Retreat Center located on the Hudson River in Ossining, New York. We will adjourn the next morning at about 11 am. The cost for lodging, 3 meals, and refreshments is $90. You may pay (check or cash only) when you get there. Scholarship assistance is available.

To make your reservation, please e-mail Jack Elliott at je58@mac.com. (Note: this is a new e-mail address.) Also please make your reservation right now instead of waiting until the last minute. There are many meetings that you will soon forget, Chicago Invitation you will remember all your life!

Discussion of topics for the next meeting

  • More on RCA communication
  • Discussions of overtures coming to GS 2009.
  • GS reorganization and changes to GSC by-laws. (Daniel Meeter will make a request to Wes for materials.)
  • Action on who will be the moderator of CI.
  • Review the DVD “Invitation to Conversations” featuring Rich Mouw and Carol Bechtel
  • Speakers have yet to be confirmed…

  1. Wish I could be with you folks, but I have a training that week down in Atlanta. I do think that you all might want to pay attention to the seating of the Central Cities Classis. The attempt to seat them at GS 2008 was denied on a technicality that will not be available at GS 2009. The failure of the GSC and the Commission on Church Order to act on the formation of this “classis” has set up a scenario by which they could be seated prior to any discussion on the validity of non-geographical classes or classes with so few churches. Greater Palisades has sent letteres to the CoCO and GSC about this situation. No reply other than acknowledgement of the correspondence has been received. We are hoping that thy will take some action at their October meetings. The formation of an overture will follow such response.
